The organization I support has standardized on Cisco Catalyst 4507-E's as their primary distribution switch. We have over 100 of these in SolarWinds and have not had any issues. I recently added a new one, but when the discovery process displays the available interfaces/ports, nothing shows up. I opened a ticket with support and they reasonably suggested that it was probably an issue with the switch itself since we had over 100 other identical switches working properly. I then opened a TAC with Cisco and spent a week troubleshooting with the engineer. He ran several SNMP debugs during the discovery process, and was able to show (via the debug logs) that the switch was receiving the SNMP queries and sending the information back. We could even see it sending info for every interface. Thus, it was determined that this was not an issue with the Cisco switch. Back to SW with that information. I supplied a current diagnostics dump and was told:
"I do see from the diags that we are able to poll now. That we don't get all the interfaces you want from the webui, we are going to have to create a Universal Device Poller - and to do so, we are going to need from vendor what the OID's to use to create the poller."
Thus, it appears that NPM is receiving the interface data from the switch. I don't understand why a new UDP needs to be created when the built-in pollers are working fine on the other 100+ switches that we are polling. My question is, has anyone run into this issue before, and if so, what was the solution that you used?
Thanks,
Jon
