Ever since I started working with computers, I have felt the need to reformat and reload them on a regular basis. While I have no issues following through with this on my desktops, I have been fighting the urge to do this for our SolarWinds environment for the past couple of years. Over the years, our SolarWinds environment has seen many changes. Now, with the release of NPM 12, having so many changes of its own, I finally decided it would be a great time to clean up the mess we call our SolarWinds environment, and rebuild it all from scratch.
I am talking about rebuilding all of the servers, database, views, etc... No imports, no restores, no nothing from the past. We will still keep the old database to use for reports of historical data, if/when needed. I think this will simplify things in general, and allow for a more efficient system in the end, as I have learned quite a bit over the years and can finally undo all of the "bad" decisions the current systems may, or may not, be built upon. I am fully aware, I think, of the amount of work I will need to do in order to make this transition successful. I will be planning it out over the next few months, and get as much ready to go as I can, before I start the transition.
Would you keep your old system, simply upgrading it to the next release of NPM, or would you start over?
Or, maybe you really don't care...
How will you be moving to NPM 12?
Thank you,
-Will
